Rio blasts Wag culture
|
England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has blasted the media attention surrounding the Wags at the World Cup a couple of years ago, calling the whole sorry affair a “circus”.
“People were worrying more about what [the Wags] were wearing and where they were going, rather than the England football team,” the star admitted. “It was just a bit too close. The football wasn’t really separate from the personal life.”
“We became a bit of a circus in terms of the Wag situation. It was a bit like watching a theatre show unfolding. Football almost became a secondary event,” he added ruefully.
They play football at the World Cup too? Who knew?
All very admirable, but lest we forget, while it’s true that Rio doesn’t spend a lot of time launching fragrances or prancing down the catwalk, he did spend most of the month prior to the World Cup filming a dire Candid Camera-style TV show called Rio’s World Cup Wind-Ups.
Oh, and footie fans rest assured: the Wags won’t be out in force for the crunch Euro qualifier against Belarus in Minsk tonight… mainly because the shopping in run-down Eastern European city is absolutely dire.
